Approximately 33 Employees Laid Off at Ubisoft's Toronto Studio
Just a few months after laying off 45 employees in April, Ubisoft has announced another round of job cuts.
This time, around 33 employees have been dismissed from its Toronto studio, which is known for its work on Far Cry 5, Far Cry 6, Watch Dogs Legions, and the Splinter Cell remake.
Internal Changes at Ubisoft Toronto
Ubisoft has been making internal changes for some time now to "increase collective efficiency," which has led to a gradual reduction in its workforce. It's important to note that the Toronto studio is also involved in the development of the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake, slated for release in 2026. This project, announced in September 2020, has faced a turbulent development journey, including several delays, until Ubisoft Montreal took over the production.
Impact of Ubisoft Toronto Layoffs
These layoffs reflect Ubisoft Toronto's ongoing strategy to streamline its operations and improve efficiency across its global studios. While the restructuring aims to position the company for future success, it inevitably affects the lives of many talented individuals. As the industry continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how these changes will impact Ubisoft's long-term development plans and the quality of its future releases.
